What to Expect at Your First DCSS Office Appointment

For custodial parents who are opening a new DCSS case or meeting with DCSS for the first time in years, knowing what to bring and what to expect reduces anxiety and improves results.

What to Bring

Bring: your identification, the child’s birth certificate, the existing support order (if one exists), your complete payment history, the paying parent’s last known address and employer, any known financial information about the paying parent (bank accounts, property, vehicles), and a clear statement of what you need DCSS to do.

DCSS serves many clients and has limited time per case. Arriving prepared — with documents organized, specific questions written down, and a clear request — makes the appointment more productive. DCSS caseworkers respond better to custodial parents who can describe their situation specifically (‘I have a $450/month order, he hasn’t paid since January, he works at ABC Company’) than to those who are vague about the details.

The California Child Support Recovery System gives custodial parents the exact tools and templates to enforce support orders, calculate arrears, and use every enforcement mechanism available. Request your free evaluation here.
