The California Child Support Recovery System is published by Justice Foundation — a consumer protection and legal education organization focused on helping individuals access the rights and remedies California law already gives them.

Why We Built This

California has some of the most powerful child support enforcement tools in the country. Wage garnishment, tax intercept, license suspension, passport denial, contempt, property liens — the legal machinery exists and it is free to use. The problem is that most custodial parents don’t know how to activate it.

DCSS caseworkers are overworked. Private attorneys are expensive. This kit fills the gap: it tells you exactly what tools exist, how to demand them in writing by statute number, and how to escalate when the system doesn’t respond.
